Vote Rick Astley as the sexiest man alive
The folks over at Kerrang Magazine have decided to open up a little poll asking lots of questions ranging from the Worst Band *cough*tokiohotel*cough* all the way up to the Sexiest Male.
Sexiest Male? That has Rick’s name all over it.
So while I was busy the last couple of days taking care of some stuff, some of the folks who hang out in our IRC channel took action and created these two autovoters and I must admit I’m quite impressed.
The java one by Peter (I hear it’s the preferred one) & the bash script.
So what does the Java one do? It votes for the following:
- Best Thing about 2008 - Rick Astley
- Worst Thing About 2008 - Tokio Hotel
- Best Band - Rick Astley
- Worst Band - Tokio Hotel
- Best New Band - Rick Astley
- Worst Album - Scream
- Best Track - Never Gonna Give You Up
- Best Video - Never Gonna Give You Up
- Best Live Band - Rick Astley
- Sexiest Male - Rick Astley
- Sexiest Female - Bill Kaulitz
- Hero of 2008 - Rick Astley
- Villain of 2008 - Large Hadron Collider
- Best Unsigned Band - Rick Astley
- Best Videogame - Battletoads
It also has the ability to use a proxy list.
From what I’m told the Kerrang awards used to have a number of votes for each section, but that has since been removed. Rick Astley had more than 2.2 million votes for the Sexiest Male category at last count.
That issue of Kerrang will be on sale on December 10th, I’m curious to see if the results go through.
Update - I received this by intoxic, its a web based voter done in PHP.

You can do that, but there’s a big time you have been blocked by now. The way I found out I was blocked, was voting via the website and check the headers. Voting with my own IP didn’t require a Referer header… sending with ANY other ip (froxy, at a friend of whatever) DID send the referer header. I must be blocked, that’s the reason I implemented proxy ability for people like you and me who can be blocked

Is there a way to get the java voter working under linux? I’ve tried but it appears to be complaing about the trayicon thing.
I’m thinking of getting an imacro voter going shortly and seeing how well that works.

can you be more specific? Are you able to run it, but just not able to minimize it to tray? The tray button should be disabled if it’s not supported by your platform or JRE. Are you able to vote with the program, or doesn’t it start at all?

oh and by the way, I’ve read the tray icon feature is available since Java 1.6. Please make sure you have that version installed.

The people at Kerrang were screwing around with the poll a bit. First the vote counts were reset to zero, then the counts went back up to what they were, and now they don’t report the total vote count. It’s probable that they are going to let Rick down.

@Anonymous (1): actually, after reading some other posts I was convinced by some persons that this Java thing I created is actually not straight with the goal of our ideologies. We are Rick-fans, and the initial thought of this poll was to get Rick Astley win the Sexiest Male category. I just found this vote list somewhere on pastebin and adapted my program to it. After thinking twice, I should have stayed with only voting for the sexiest male category. Anyway, I also created a voter for the Donna.be website (top 5000). I´ve never heard of the action again, so I assume this shenigan will not make it hehe.
