Rick To Perform At EMA’s - HELL YEAH!
We just received word from a reliable source that Rick Astley, the absolute god of the Internet, will be performing at this years MTV European Music Awards being held on November 6th.
Get this, not only one song, but two! Holy crap how awesome is that?
We had our doubts that MTV were going to do this, and were instead going to screw us Astley fans over, but as Richard Godfrey, MTV Europe Music Awards Senior Vice President said:
This surprise nomination truly demonstrates that the MTV Europe Music Awards is the most democratically selected Awards show there is.
For that Richard, on behalf of all Rick Astley fans I thank you - for never giving us up, or letting us down.
So I guess the real question is, What two songs is he going to perform?

Awesome, I just don’t know how I’m going to watch it living in U.S. I haven’t really looked as I didn’t think they would actually do this. Is it showing on MTV here in the U.S.? Also I know ti will be Never Gonna Give You Up as everyone does, and then it should be one of his better early songs or sleeping, none of his stage in between the two though as he strayed away from the dance style that had really gotten him his huge success even though I think his voice is what kept it.

I don’t necessarily think this is niceness on behalf of MTV, though. Their sole purpose is to get revenue by attracting views, which is good for their corporate sponsors. They could just as easily disqualify Rick Astley, but an couple of million views for the EMAs would surely bode well for them, especially people who would not normally watch their (dare I say sucky) awards show. Oh well, you take what you can get. Congrats, everyone

This is a tremendous development, if true. Kudos to MTV for honouring the results of enthusiastic internet democracy. This could be the most-watched MTV awards show of all time! I think that Rick Astley should play something new, followed by something old. “Sleeping” is a terrific song from 2001, and the live performance looked pretty smooth at the time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-jWEpAdwMU And then, of course, there’s only *one* possible choice for his second song: “Never Gonna Give You Up.” He’ll bring the house down with that one.
